Person-Centered music therapy
What Is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is the personalized, evidence-based use of music by a credentialed music therapist to accomplish individualized goals. The therapeutic relationship between trained music therapist and client is an important part of this process.
Music provides expression, connection, and motivation. This makes it ideal for both individual and group work.
Music activities are structured to activate specific motor movement, brain activity or emotional response; and to provide enjoyment, encouragement, and opportunity for growth and success. We want you to enjoy your journey!
Individual music therapy services begin with an assessment and goal-setting. We will identify musical responses and preferences, music-based skills, individual strengths and areas for improvement, and individual responses to musical interventions. This will help us to provide the best possible services and track progress towards your goals. When providing IEP services, goals/objectives are developed in coordination with other professionals providing services on the student’s IEP.
Group music therapy services range from early childhood music making and family/community services, to teen and adult groups developing social skills, to older adults needing memory care or directed recreation to improve quality-of-life.
